Green TVET – Energy Project (Kenya)
The Green TVET – Energy Project is an international qualification and future-oriented project within the framework of the Federal-State Program (BLP). The Federal-State Program is a joint funding instrument of the Federal Government and the State of Hesse to support international cooperation projects in the field of vocational education and training.
The project is managed and commissioned by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH.
The training measures were implemented by the Hessian State Office for Technology Training (HLfT).
The project was financed by the federal government and the state of Hesse as part of the Federal-State Program.
Project structure and implementation phases:
The project is designed as a multi-phase qualification program and combines digital learning formats with practice-oriented classroom work and a subsequent transfer phase:
Online phase:
A two-week online phase to teach technical basics as well as didactic and methodological aspects of modern vocational training in the energy sector.
Face-to-face phase in Germany:
A practice-oriented face-to-face phase with in-depth exercises, group work, and the use of digital learning technologies. The focus was on transferring technical content into practical learning and training formats.
Transfer and multiplier phase in Kenya:
In the subsequent implementation phase, the qualified participants will act as multipliers. The implementation and dissemination of the project results in Kenya served to anchor the content in the participating institutions in a sustainable manner.
Technical focus
In terms of content, the project focused on four equally important technical topics that represent key areas for the future of the energy transition:
- Energy efficiency – lighting: Development and evaluation of energy-efficient lighting solutions for learning and working spaces.
- Solar PV: Fundamentals, design, and application of photovoltaic systems.
- Wind energy: Functionality and use of wind turbines, supplemented by VR-supported learning formats.
- Hydrogen: Hydrogen as an energy carrier and the conversion chain from electricity to hydrogen and back.
